Aliquim discovered her talent in music at an early age when she sang in family events with her sisters. Her passion for music burnt on in her heart through high school as she would take opportunities to sing together with those who were musically inclined. Her professional journey as an artist began when she participated at a talent search dubbed, Kipawa Talent Search organized by Hope FM, in the year 2003. She was part of the 13 finalists who compiled an album “Kipawa”. She later recorded her first song “Nitajikaza”, with Kijiji Records in the same year.
In 2005, producer Gideon Kimanzi of Gydkym Music incorporated Aliquim into The Community of Praisers, a group of new talented music artists who were popular for the song “Uhimidiwe”. In the same year, Aliquim released a single track titled “I Will Worship”. This marked the beginning of the journey for her 12-track album Fananawe (ALTERNATIVE PRAISE ), which was
released in February 2011.
Fanna Nawe means I will worship you Lord:
To translate the Hook of the song in praises as followed:
Nataka kufanana nawe eh bwana.
(I want to be like You oh Lord).
Nikujue unavyonifahamu Baba.
(To know you like you know me Father).
Siku zote nipate tembea na wewe.
(To get to walk with you all my days).
Ombi langu nikujue.
(My prayer is to know You).
Sala yangu, tuwe kitu kimoja.
(My prayer for us to be as one).
This album, that took her four years to complete, is a fusion of different genres of music which are a reflection of the many lessons she continues to learn as she grows in her career and faith. In her words, “There is a beautiful exchange you experience as you praise God”. Presently she
works with her husband at Gydkym Music and serves faithfully as one of the praise leaders at the church where she fellowships.
Cyril Guérette AKA ILL SEER will leave you with a few choice topics to think about! The Senior Pastor of Free Church Toronto is known for his delivery of a truly inspired word delivered in a poetic format.
Prophetic Poetic Productions is the label, ILL Seer is the artist and I am DJ Worship More! Here to provide you with another interview that will encourage, minister and provide deliverance in the name of Jesus.
DJ Worship More Question:
ILL SEER, I am thankful for this opportunity to conduct this interview with you.
In 2010 you slipped me a song called “Think about These Things”.I have to admit the hook just grab me, great song, awesome music.
Before we get into what’s new, can you please provide a quick introduction of who you are as a believer and artist for our readers?
Answer ILL SEER:
First, I need to thank you DJ Worship More, it’s a blessing to get to converse with you about my faith. As a believer, my parents came to faith when I was quite young, and I was raised in the ways of the Lord. As a teenager, I pushed back but God brought me around during a revival period in my hometown of Sarnia, Ontario in Canada. A number of pastors rose out of that time period actually. I went to Heritage Baptist College, and eventually graduated and went to the University of Cambridge to pursue a Master’s degree. I started sliding in my practice of faith, but came back to do a PhD in Theology in Toronto. In 2002, God woke me back up by the amazing church which I now have come to pastor. I met my wife here at FreeChurch Toronto and started as a professor at Heritage Baptist College, and now have been blessed with three amazing children.
I first came to think of myself as an artist after being sledgehammered with the reality of the biblical Prophets as poets, and started taking writing lyrics seriously. I was part of a band, then helped form a full hiphop crew in the UK. I never really worked with believers until I came back to Canada and had the pleasure to link up with amazing cats like The Runaway, Shad, and now loads of others.
DJ Worship More Question:
Your church has a unique way of providing benediction, in the form of what is known as psalmbalming or psalmbombing. Now at my church the benediction is as following:
Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart; be acceptable unto thee O Lord my strength and my provider Amen.
Can you give me an example of how you would drop a quick psalmbomb before the end of a service?
Answer ILL SEER:
For sure … actually our church has always used the Aaronic blessing as the final benediction of the service, a tradition I still keep. But each of the two pastors before me would do a little spontaneous address beforehand. I just added in my love of freestyle rhyming prayer. It’s always tied to the scripture verse that was preached on but if it was on John 3:16 it might look something like:
God, thank you for sending your son, our pretending is done, the ending you’ve won … so let us love the world like you love the world, but not love the World. Let us see unfurled, the love of you only Begotten, let’s not have forgotten how often we’ve acted rotten, but let us get lost in, the demonstration of your salvation, we give you a standing ovation, we believe in you so we won’t perish, everlasting life we’ll always cherish! And may the Lord bless you and keep you. May the Lord turn his face towards you and be gracious to you. May the Lord shine the Light of His Son Jesus Christ down upon you and grant you peace. For we are His Church, we’ll see you this week. Amen.
DJ Worship More Question:
“Doxological Freestyle VOL.I”, hit the street March 19, 2012 it is touted as a CD that not only needs to be listened to but prayed with.
Why is this CD one that we should not only listen to, but pray along with as well?
Answer ILL SEER:
When I felt the Lord put the concept for this project on my heart, I knew it shouldn’t just be another album in the rotation. First, it was spontaneous prayers from the heart, and I wanted that to catch on to the listener. I actually instructed the producer DJ Clutch, to include lots of instrumental space so that the Spirit could move people, both in their silence, or in their own offerings of word to the Lord. I believe that the church needs to pray more, and sometimes it’s hard to create that space for God. I wanted this album to do that.
One of the things our congregation has had as part of the mission of The Weekly and other events is “to craft an environment in which people meet the Living Presence of God through worship, word and sacrament.” I wanted the music and the words to craft such an environment as well.
DJ Worship More Question:
I enjoyed the track “Follow Repeatedly”; I am really feeling how you meditate to the prayer.
There is power in prayer, deliverance and healing can all be received by praying to God and asking what we want from Him. Nothing is impossible the only thing that can impede our prayer is our lack of faith.
Do you have a special word that you would care to share with our readers?
Answer ILL SEER:
If it’s anything, it’s to not think of prayer as an extra project on top of all the other ministry you do for God. Think of it as the main ministry. Think of all you do as prayer. God wants us to pray with our bodies, as well as our hearts and minds.
We don’t need to just do prayer to cover evangelism, we can use prayer to be evangelism. If you are a musician, recognize that David charged his musicians to create a new culture of prayer. That music itself is a prayer.
For example, this year one of the amazing groups I’ve gotten to know in Toronto, No Found Address, take their music into the streets, to minister to the homeless. Cliff and Lennox asked me to come do some psalmbombing/psalmbalming with them. We sat in the park, where they had been asked to come, and when I started freestyling prayers to God, I looked at all the bankers on their lunch break, all the homeless in the park, the kids, the passersby, and they were listening to me speak about, and to God, and they liked it. It didn’t come off as aggressive and demeaning … it came off as affirmative and they received it. If we pray like that publicly, or offer people prayers, that is one of the best ways to show Jesus to those who don’t know him.
Doxological Freestyling is a way of living the life of Christ … in whatever mode we pray … with words, music, art, service, and plain old living life.
DJ Worship More Question:
ILL Seer, Where can we read more about you and do you have any sites that we can visit to stay up to date on your next project?
(Websites, Youtube, ect.)
Thank you so much! There’s a few places to get to know what I’m doing:
If you haven’t listen to latest tracks from “Doxological Freestyles Vol I.” please do today. There is healing and deliverance in this collective set of prayers. Cyril, bro you are a blessing and moving a direction that no man can follow, because they are guided by the steps of the Lord.
Mahali (pronounced Ma-ha-di) 31, is a UK based Gospel music solo artist, songwriter, session studio backing vocalist, fund raiser, wife and mother. She has been affectionately referred to as a singing evangelist and story teller. “There is a special anointing on her when she sings” has been the words of those who’ve seen her perform.
Singing has always been part of Mahali’s life. Her voice was nurtured very early on. From her early years in Lesotho she remembers her Christian home where she and her two siblings would look forward to family worship every morning and evening when they would sing songs from the hymn book, each person singing in a different part. “I miss those days. We all sounded so good too!” Mahali says with a smile. The second of three siblings in the Masitise family with dad a Pastor, Mahali embraces her roots. ”Lesotho is a country of people who love to sing!” Mahali adds. “Singing is a way of life, within and without the church walls communities are driven by music. This became even more pronounced when I moved to South Africa in my teenage years. South Africans express their nation plight and pride through music. You can feel it in the very air you breath. I’m truly indebted to God for a blessing of being part of such rich musically gifted countries.”
Mahali and her husband moved to the UK in 2002 and this is where God’s Spirit spoke to her about singing. “I really missed singing. But I didn’t have the guts to sing on my own. And somehow in this country life is so busy that forming a singing group is a mission. In 2005 after a friend watched my wedding video where I sang he persuaded me to sing. I was quite hesitant because I had never felt my voice was a soloist voice. From then on I felt God had been speaking through him. I prayed about it and started buying backing tracks. Only in 2007/8 did I feel that God was calling me. People’s testimonies after hearing me sing and my husband’s firm belief in me sealed it for me”.
God opened door after door enabling Mahali to record her début solo album entitled Dignified. The album whose song lyrics were penned by her husband is the family’s moving testimony. Since recording this contemporary Gospel album she has seen God take her from strength to strength both as an artist and as a minister of the Gospel through song.
When recording Dignified, Mahali and her husband Molapo were expecting their third child. Shortly after the album’s release , L’amour Tumelo Tomy Yao was born on September 25th 2008. At 6 weeks he developed Bronchiolitis. He was in ICU for 10 weeks and sadly died on January 9th 2009. “Lamour almost died after 2 weeks in ICU” Mahali says. “The doctors told us they had done everything they could for him and there was nothing else they could do. We were standing around his bed, everyone pretty much in tears. His heart had suddenly stopped beating and he was not responding to resuscitation. I started singing ‘You Are LORD’ to God with tears in my eyes. And his heart actually started beating!!!!. L’amour lived 8 more weeks and I tell you those were the most beautiful 8 weeks of my life (and I hope and trust his too). He was airlifted from Cardiff to Great Ormond Street Children Hospital in London. Whilst in London we really bonded and I am happy that when he rested, he knew without a doubt just how much mommy loved him.” The death of Mahali’s little one caused her to spend 2009 recuperating.
In December 2008 God of the impossible, a song from the album Dignified was voted number one on the United by One Radio online poll. The album has since gotten airplay on a number of radio stations including Light FM, BBC Three Counties Radio, BBC Radio Leicester, Cross Rhythms Radio, UCB Gospel Radio and overseas on SABC’s Lesedi FM, Ukhozi FM and Radio Pulpit.
“2010 has been such an amazing year with its exciting peaks and tough troughs. Challenges are not nice but that’s when one gets an opportunity to see God at work!” Mahali says. By the dawn of 2010 Mahali was surprisingly diagnosed with peritoneal TB following a long spell of a medical puzzle to her bulging tummy. “The devil thought he was finishing me off but he is a liar!” Mahali declares. She completed a 6 month course of treatment and was declared TB free!
“He only is my rock and my salvation: He is my defense; I shall not be moved.” Psalm 62:2
In 2010 Mahali entered the UK Christian Musician talent search Gospel Rock – which was sponsored by Integrity Music - and she became one of the favourites with both the judges and the audiences alike making it to the finals in London. After months of painstakingly difficult process of picking the crème de la crème of UK national Gospel talent out of hundreds of able participants God enabled Mahali to make it into the top 10.
“I love singing; when I sing I feel so blessed. I feel so special! I feel God right th
ere with me. I feel Him sing through me. It is such an amazing feeling. I think that’s what the anointing feels like ”
“God has really taken me a long way and I thank Him. He has improved my singing and presentation. I can only look forward to a brighter future with Him because where I am now had nothing to do with me. It was all Him. As I look forward to where He’s gonna take me next, I celebrate where He has put me.”
Mahali’s involvement with Gospel Rock led to an interview on Premier Gospel Radio, the UK’s number one Christian radio station. Other Radio interviews that Mahali has had include BBC Radio Leicester and BBC Three Counties Radio.
Mahali has also sung in big events in the UK namely the Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) Church South England Conference Camp Meeting and the North England Conference Camp Meeting. She’s also sung at the National Welsh Mission (SDA) Day of Fellowship in Llandridod Wells.
The biggest highlight so far has been a live DVD recording of her album Dignifed. The Dignified Live DVDwas recorded at the Lighthouse theatre in Kettering on August 1st 2010. “My motivation to have the concert against all odds was to raise funds for Cancele Senior Secondary School, a Seventh-Day Adventist boarding school I attended in South Africa. A generous percentage from each DVD sale will go towards the school to help with refurbishment. It is only through your help that this dream will be realised so let us partner together to make this possible. This cause has become the reason I keep singing. I have songs ready for the studio for my second album! Even with that album a percentage will go to Cancele Senior Secondary School. God has been too good. My commitment to Cancele School is my way of saying thank You.”
